Our baffle wall systems provide a highly cost effective alternative to suspended walls to split the areas of a large a heat treatment furnace into zones with different operating conditions, including radiation shielding at furnace doors. They can significantly reduce radiation losses when furnace doors are raised for loading and emptying operation and can also significantly reduce heat losses and costs, increase flexibility and greatly increase throughput.

 

FOUNDRY STOPPERS AND STOPPER TIPS

The quality of our stoppers is first class, drawing on over 35 years of technical and production experience. The stoppers are made in a carbon bonded graphite and high alumina composition, shaped and compacted using isostatic compaction techniques. They are high fired to achieve high strengths by coking the phenolic resin green bonding system.

 

Stoppers can be supplied with glazed external surfaces to minimise oxidation during preheat or use. Quality is stringently controlled and monitored throughout the manufacturing process. And we have a wide range of tooling and can offer short, reliable lead times.

 

BAFFLE WALLS

 

Our baffle wall systems provides a cost effective alternative to suspended walls to split the areas of a large heat treatment furnace into zones with different operating conditions, including radiation shielding at furnace doors.

 

The usual method of obtaining such a division by building a bull nose down from the roof of the furnace to the required height from the floor is not only costly but reduces the working area significantly and can be difficult to modify and up date an existing furnace.

 

The baffle wall system consists of suspended tongue and groove square tubes, suspended closely together across the furnace. Installation is simple and only requires about 6” exposure of the furnace roof, across which, two light steel beams are installed 3” apart. Each baffle has an integrally pressed flange, which sit on the steel support beams. After installing the support beams across the furnace, the roof insulation, usually about 300 mms thick, is reinstalled and the tubes packed with fibre to reduce heat flow to the steel beams. The tubes are made by isostatic compaction in NICARB a silicon nitride bonded silicon carbide composition which is extremely strong up to 1400c.  The length of the tubes can be varied to suit the application. Typical lengths vary from 450 to 1700 mms long. The interlocking tongue and groove design allows snug fitting and eliminates radiation losses through the sealed wall. Heat losses can be minimised by stuffing the hollow baffles with insulating wool and or fixing fibre modules to the wall.

 

Baffle walls are used in linear arranged furnace geometry where they can significantly reduce radiation losses when furnace doors are raised for loading and emptying operations. They also significantly reduce heat losses and costs, increase flexibility and greatly increase throughput.
